Detroit Making Progress With Its Public School System

Good Wall Street Journal article on Detroit’s public schools taking a step closer to financial stability over the weekend when the 7,000-member teachers’ union accepted a contract that will save the district $63 million over the next three years. This innovative contract will also make it easier to fire bad teachers and reward those who do well, while allowing academically exceptional schools more oversight over their own finances. It’s nice to see Detroit with one of the nation’s most struggling school systems coming up with new ideas.
