Interesting LA Times opinion piece (and comments) on the series of increases in the cost of a UC education. The fees have doubled in the last decade and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. UCLA students have been protesting the fee hikes. Add in the cost of room, board and books and the UC system fees approach those of Ivy League schools. With the economy struggling, it seems time to to take a hard look at the high cost of a college education in general.

Sergey Brin, a high school dropout, offers up some ideas on how the education system might be improved in this LA Times article. Most of these ideas center around computers and technology. We love people like this bringing their real world experience to bear on the problems facing education today and believe that their lack of formal education can actually provide a fresh perspective.
